On the occasion of World Environment Day, a special programme aimed at promoting awareness about environmental protection and democratic participation was organized at the campus of Shiv Ganga Plus Two Girls' School.
The event saw the active participation of several departments including ICDS, Mithila Forest Division, the Education Department, and others.
Inauguration with Lamp Lighting by DM
The programme was inaugurated by District Magistrate Anand Sharma through the ceremonial lighting of a lamp near a beautifully crafted rangoli. He greeted anganwadi workers, helpers, common citizens, and departmental officials present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, he remarked, “You all are frontline warriors working at the grassroots level. You can play a crucial role in spreading awareness about voting.”
Voting Is a Responsibility, Not Just a Right
The DM emphasized that every citizen of India — rich or poor — is equally empowered to vote. “Those who abstain from voting are evading their responsibility,” he stated. He urged voters across all ten assembly constituencies to cast their votes mindfully, contributing to the foundation of a prosperous and strong democracy.
Nature is Our Culture
Highlighting the importance of nature, the DM added, “Nature is our culture. The more trees we plant, the richer our atmosphere will be in oxygen, directly benefiting future generations.”
Oath-Taking Ceremonies Held
The participants took two important pledges:
Voter Pledge: Citizens vowed to uphold democratic traditions and to participate in free and fair elections without any discrimination based on caste, religion, or language.
Environment Pledge: Attendees committed to protecting the environment, reducing waste, conserving water and electricity, minimizing plastic usage, and planting more trees.
Forest Division Leads Tree Plantation Drive
At the DRDA campus, Range Forest Officer Ragini Singh and her team led a tree plantation drive to convey the message of environmental conservation.
Tree Plantation at Schools and Public Places
As part of the broader initiative, tree plantations will be carried out at school campuses, anganwadi centers, and public spaces. Children, parents, and the general public will also be educated on the importance of environmental conservation.
Experts and officials will hold discussions on climate change, green cover, and sustainable practices.
